Apply online nowTo open an Online Saver, you must be aged 16 or over and must be a UK resident. An account can be held in your sole name, or jointly with one other eligible individual.
You must maintain a minimum balance of £1 in your account at all times. The maximum balance is £1,000,000.
The rate of interest for the Online Saver is variable. Interest can be added to your account annually on the 31st March or it can be paid monthly on the last day of the month, but must be paid into another Barnsley Building Society account or an external account held with another bank or building society.

Withdrawals can be made from your account at any time on condition that there are sufficient cleared funds in your account and that you maintain the minimum balance of £1.
Withdrawals are only allowed by logging onto our website to transfer to your nominated bank or building society account or a nominated account held with us.
You may nominate twelve external accounts for withdrawals to be transferred to (please note this includes the Barnsley e-Save and Barnsley non-internet accounts). You will also be able to choose up to three other Barnsley Online accounts (excludes e-Save) to receive transfers from your Online Saver account.
You will be able to check your balance and interest rate and view statements showing transactions on your account whenever you wish. Whenever we change the rate of interest applying to Online Saver, we will inform you by e-mail within 30 days of the change. It is important that you let us know if your e-mail address changes.
As we will advise you of changes to Online Saver interest rate and terms, and generally communicate with you, via email, it is very important that you notify us if your email address changes.
You can change your contact details (postal address, email and telephone) when you are logged in. To change your name you will need to write, enclosing proof of the change, to Barnsley Internet Savings, PO Box 216, Bradford, BD5 5BE.
If you open an Online Saver account and subsequently change your mind within 14 days, we will either transfer your savings to another account with us (subject to the completion of the appropriate application form) or repay them to you with interest earned up to but not including, the day of closure. If at any time you're not satisfied with the service you've received, please let us know. We have a simple process enabling you to do this, the details of which are in our leaflet "Our Top Priority Is You", which can be
downloaded from this site, obtained at any of our branches or requested by calling us on 0845 1200 898.
If we cannot come to a resolution to your satisfaction, you may have the right to refer the matter to the Financial Ombudsman Service, of which we are a member.

Yorkshire Building Society is a participant in the Financial Services Compensation Scheme established under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000.

This section contains the general terms and conditions (the “General Terms”) that apply to the Barnsley Building Society Online Saver and the particular terms of the Barnsley Building Society Online Saver (the “Specific Product Terms”). Read together, the Specific Product Terms and the General Terms, explain and govern how your account works. In particular, General Terms 6, 7 and 10 explain the circumstances in which we may change the interest rates and the terms and conditions to your account and any charges relating to your account – and how we will tell you about those changes. It is important that you read all of the terms applicable to your account before you decide whether to open it. If there is any inconsistency between the Specific Product Terms and the General Terms, then the Specific Product Term will apply.

References in the Specific Product Terms or in the General Terms to “you” and “your” are to the account holder. We do not have to recognise the interest or claim of any person other than the account holder in respect of money held in the account, nor will we be liable in any way for failing to recognise such interest or claim, except as required by law.
If you cannot be traced after a reasonable enquiry, and either:
We may use the money in any account you have with us to pay any money you owe us (whether under a loan, guarantee or otherwise) which is due for payment but which has not been paid. We will tell you if we do this. No interest will be earned on any money used in this way.
We will not send statements to you. You will be able to access your account online and view statements at any time, which will include details of interest paid.
Interest is calculated on a daily basis starting on the second working day following the day of receipt for cheques and on the day of receipt for cash and up to, but not including, the day of withdrawal. Cheques paid in on a non-working day are treated as received on the next working day (working days exclude Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays). In the case of a cheque drawn on a bank with an address outside the UK interest will start on the day the cleared funds are credited to your account.
All communications with us may be monitored/recorded to improve the quality of our service and for your protection and security.
If the Online Saver account is in a sole name and the account holder dies, once we receive formal written notification of the death the administration of the account will be dealt with in writing in order that it may be operated by the personal representatives of the account holder.
These terms are governed by the laws of the country in the United Kingdom (i.e. England and Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland) where you opened the account.
